One of Australia’s largest small business lending platforms, Valiant Finance raises $12.5m in Series B funding round

ANZ Bank and Salesforce Ventures join as strategic investors

Sydney, Australia - 21 October 2019:

Valiant Finance today announced it had secured $12.5 million in its Series B equity funding round.

Led by ANZi Ventures, with contributions from Salesforce Ventures, Carthona Capital, Westpac’s Reinventure and Full Circle Venture Capital, the additional funding will be used to accelerate Valiant’s product roadmap and offer its platform to a broader range of referral partners.

Valiant’s business lending platform has funded almost $350m in lending for its customers to date. The platform scans products from over 70 lenders and pairs small business customers with the best loan option and interest rate for their needs. To ensure a streamlined experience, all stages of the process – from inquiry to settlement – are managed within Valiant’s platform.

Alex Molloy, co-founder and CEO of Valiant, says the funding round will allow the startup to strengthen its place as a player in small business lending, “We’re very excited to take investment from ANZ and Salesforce Ventures. We’ve had massive growth over the last 18 months by providing our platform to institutional referral partners and investing heavily in our asset and commercial finance capabilities. The additional capital from this round enables us to consolidate that growth, accelerate our platform roadmap and build partnerships with equipment dealerships offering point-of-sale finance to their customers,” he said.

With its Series B investment lead by ANZi Managing Director Ron Spector and Investment Director Daniel Wypler, ANZ becomes the second major bank alongside Westpac to invest in Valiant’s small business lending platform.

ANZi Managing Director Ron Spector says: “Valiant is changing the way businesses access capital. This investment is aligned with our strategy to support the leading innovative companies which can create value for Australian SMBs. We are excited about supporting the team and partnering to help them grow the business” said Spector, who joins Valiant’s board alongside Reinventure’s Simon Cant and Carthona Capital’s Dean Dorrell.

Salesforce Ventures also invested in the Series B round in one of the first deployments of capital from the companies’ USD $50 million Australian Trailblazer Fund.

“Valiant is a trailblazer in business finance in Australia and has developed a compelling proposition and experience for customers using the Salesforce platform,” said Rob Keith, Principal at Salesforce Ventures. “We’re proud to join ANZi Ventures in this funding round.”

The Series B funding will be used to partner with institutions looking to introduce or update their delivery of SME lending and to develop unique product features for those partners. Valiant’s existing partners include Westpac, Connective and Yellow Brick Road Group, where they assist bankers, mortgage brokers and financial advisers with their SME customers.

“Where our platform shines is intelligently selecting the best option for the customer and building a unique digital application for that product in real time, giving customers the experience they expect even if the end lender has limited digital capability” said Ritchie Cotton, Valiant’s co-founder and Chief Product Officer. “We are building on this base and adding more globally unique capabilities for our partners, like collaboration and machine learning features for accountants and point-of-sale vendors.”
